While the term “conclave” is usually associated with a meeting of Catholic cardinals to select the next pope, it was also the moniker given to a recent gathering of food writers in Spain’s Ribera del Duero wine region.
Organized by Spanish chefs Ferran Adrià and Andoni Luis Aduriz, the retreat brought together journalists from Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Italy, the UK, and the US, to reflect on the past 20 years in the world of gastronomy. The setting, at least—Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, a winery and luxury hotel housed in a converted 12th century monastery—lived up to the religious connotations of the name…
